We’ve been making button cell parts from brass and copper so a research group
can study the effects of different cell chemistry. It has been an interesting problem
with more to it than first meets the eye.
They look simple - just a little cup to hold the components to build a cell.
But, when the material is changed to something softer, the thickness has to be increased
or the cell will un-crimp itself and the electrolyte will escape. If the material
thickness is increased now either the inside gets smaller or the outside gets bigger.
If the internal diameter is smaller, the cell components won’t fit, if the external
diameter is larger then a new cell crimper is required.
Recently we’ve been making hardened and ground pellet presses for the Chemistry Dept.
at a Canadian University. They requested 4 different sizes, one of which was a different
style - shown top right of the image beside this text.
We have made these in a large range of sizes from about 3/8” to over 2” in imperial
or metric sizes.
